SCIENCE-ATOPIA

The fabulousness of school continues. I love going to work every day. I love grading papers, making lesson plans, working with kiddos and filling their minds with Super Science Knowledge.

Today was my first pep rally in like 20 years. It was awesome!! (I am a total school nerd, I know).
See pic below:

As I looked out across the gym and the cheerleaders were cheering and the band was playing and the students were all engaged and excited, I was struck with the fact that some of those students were mine and I was proud of them. I was excited that these kids are going to be the future and the future is going to be ok (really it is!). I have graded their work and I see them working hard and wanting to learn. Even the kids who are not all that in to school love to engage in learning. By and large the youth I am seeing are not checked out losers and they love learning.

The other day in Science world a student reminded us it was the Vernal Equinox and wanted to see if we could get a broom to stand up in our room. Well, guess what, we are super voodoo scientists and we got not one, but two brooms to stand up. See our evidence below:

We googled it and found out you can balance an egg on the Equinox too, so when I got home, Emily and I did the egg trick and the broom trick. She was way impressed.

We have been studying the atom and the students had to make the good ole Atom model out of Styrofoam etc. What fun. I helped several students get theirs finished. It was AWESOME, there was glue gun fun, and twisting wire, and answering questions. Here are some of the finer projects that were turned in. Some were even made our of candy (kids are so cool).

This one is made out of Popsicle sticks

A Patriotic Atom

I think Mom and Dad helped with this one. It looked professional. (It's Argon)

Gotta love hot pink and sparkly

In other news:
I am not sure if I mentioned it or not, but our Emily was sick for a week and she got to stay home and play with daddy. She is all better now and back to school.

David had a job interview today in Tyler and he says it went really well. We are of course not holding our breath since the last couple jobs have not worked out. We are hopeful and prayerful that it will work out.

My mom has joined the Blogosphere FINALLY. Now she can keep up with all of us.

I better dash, we teachers have to get up early ya know...

Till next time
Love ya

PS: Francium is the most reactive metal on earth and it is so radioactive it cannot be studied very well by scientists and cesium is some pretty explosive stuff too! (Just in case you were wondering:)
