Making Progress

I feel like today was a great day!

Wake Up Call:
After our fun trip to Austin, I had a couple of doctor's appointments this week. After having my blood work done at my Internists office, I got a serious wake up call. My lab work was not good. I have Type 2 Diabetes and my HGB AIC was 8.1 NOT good. It should be 6.0 or lower. This number is a direct result of my own stubborn stupidity. I had not been taking my medicine for serveral months and this was the result. Add to that the fact that I had been eating as if I was some kind of athelete training for a marathon or something, thousands of calories per day.

Small Victories:
After getting this news, it was game on for me. For the last few days I have been eating much better. I have been thinking about what I eat and trying to make better choices. Throughout the morning I chose good food and healthy snacks. Today I went to Chick Fil A for lunch and had a chicken breast sandwich, but removed the bun and only had a few fries. We all went to a movie this afternoon and I only had water (which we paid $5.00 for, good thing it was a $1 movie). At dinner, I had grilled chicken, a baked potato and a salad. I didn't even have any of the bread they brought to the table (big victory for me).

Good News:
I did receive some good news today. David and I are trying to have a second baby and it has not come as easily as we would have liked, but we are trying to be patient. I should say that I am trying to be patient, because David does not stress about these things, I DO! Anyway, my doctor ordered a pelvic ultrasound today to look at my ovaries to see if they were making follicles. No follicles would mean the medication I am taking is not working and we would have to try something new. Well, low and behold there were FOLLICLES, lots of them. This is very encouraging as it means the medication is stimulating my ovaries and I will hopefully ovulate soon. If we can get all the players on the court, we can score a baby. :) I know this is more info than most of you would like, but it is big news for me. Keep us in your prayers on our journey.

Movie Fun:
Today Emily went to her first movie in a theater. We usually hire a sitter and have not braved the movies with little girl yet. So today, Daddy decided to take us to see Marmaduke. Emily did really well, she watched the movie all the way through and really got into it. She was saying "Marmyduke", "Marmyduke" to the screen during the exciting parts of the movie. Very cute. It helped that it was a movie about dogs and there were dogs in every scene. Emily loves doggies.

I am encouraged and hopeful and thankful for my wonderful family. I am truly blessed.

Till next time
