Farewell Commish..Gone too soon

It has been quite a weekend. This weekend was mine and David's anniversary. We celebrated six years. On Friday, David meant some of the fellas out at Buffalo Wild Wings and Emily and I relaxed at home. Before that, we went over to Baskins and Emily picked out a stick horse and as soon as I can get her to stop for a sec, I will take her picture with it.

I didn't go to be until very late and when I checked my phone I had missed a call from my mother at 9:14pm, she doesn't stay up that late and her voicemail sounded weird, so even though it was 1:30am I called her (sorry mom). She let me know that my uncle Marty had passed away that morning!!! I was shocked, he was not sick and it is just completely unexpected. He was so young. I have not spent a ton of time with Marty and Carol over the years because they live in Chicago. I have been to visit them many times as a child on family vacations and as an adult I traveled on my own to visit them. Most recently, we began traveling with them on family vacations at time shares because they are owners and are generous! I cannot remember a time when I was with Marty that I was not laughing. He was so funny in an Eddie Haskell sort of way. Uncle Marty was famous or infamous for wearing a blue speedo swimsuit on our trips together. Oh how we teased him about his suit, but he just partied in his speedo all the same. Uncle Marty was a city commissioner in his community so we started calling him The Commish, I just can't believe he is gone. I am so sad for Carol who has been married to Marty FOREVER. It is so wonderful that God let's us share our lives with other people and build families and homes with our special spouses, but it is just so awful when a life is cut short and one member of the team is left behind too soon. David, Emily and I will be heading up to Chicago on Thursday with my parents to celebrate the life of Marty Russo and be with our family during this difficult time. Here are some pictures of Marty and my parents on their recent trip to Hawaii in February.

David and I celebrated six years of marriage on Saturday. Our friend Sarah was so sweet to keep Emily for us. Emily had a great time with her friends Ben and Sadie and this morning when I went to pick her up for church, she didn't want to leave! David and I enjoyed a nice dinner at Outback and then we went to see the Monster Trucks in Lonestar. I know that seeing Monster Trucks does not really seem like something we would do, but last year we went on a cruise for our five year anniversary and prior to that, we have been to a bed and breakfast and various other trips, so this year we decided to do something silly and Monster Trucks was it. We had a good time and enjoyed spending time together.
We have a busy week coming up, especially since we are leaving town on Thursday. I have homework and housework and David has several meetings this week at church.
Till next time...hug someone you love!

  1. I am so sorry for this devastating loss to your family. I'm sure his funeral will be a wonderful celebration of his life. It sounds like he was a great man!
